Self-assessment

I have been learning English language for specific purposes for three semestre. I am very glad that I had been learned various skills. I would observe these activities and tasks: writing, listening, power point presentation (PPP), speaking, ESP vocabulary tests, boggler’s writing and “Moodle” tests.

Writing We were learned to write a summary. I believe that my skills of writing in English are better than it was earlier. Regrettably I am still doing few mistakes in my summaries. Finding the main points of the text and write without errors is still hard for me.

Listening I think that this class activity is still one of the hard tasks to me. One of them is online listening and the other – traditional listening. I find it more difficult to do traditional listening. than online listening I think the reason is that in online listening is more exercises but it is more interesting. Sometimes I very enjoy make listening.

Power point presentation (PPP) I enjoyed preparing my Power Point presentation because I had an opportunity to get deeper into psychology science. I think that my last presentation is better than the previous because after my first and second presentation I got some useful remarks.

ESP vocabulary tests We had the same tasks in the first and second semesters so I have experience and I really improve my results because I understood how to do it exactly. But I think results could be better if I take more efforts.

Blogger’s writing There are also a new exercise for us. I found it quite interesting. Sometime it was a little bit hard to find a good information from the internet or other references.

“Moodle” tests We had to do moodle tests of all modules in every week. I think I could do tests better than it is but I try to do my best. This task is not new in this semester so it is easier than it was earlier. It not very hard for me because I make this task at home.

In the end, I may say that there are some points which need to be improved, but that is why we are studying. Also, I think that I should improve my English skills more and more because this speech is very widely used.

Behavior disorders

Behavior disorders (sometimes referred to as disruptive behavior disorders) are the most common reasons children are referred for mental health evaluations and treatment. All disruptive behavior is not the same. Behavior disorders include mental health problems with a focus on behaviors that both identify emotional problems and create interpersonal and social problems for children and adolescents in the course of their development.

The most common behavior disorder in children is attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Oppositional defiant disorder is yet another behavior disorder that focuses on the behavior that is disruptive to relationships with others.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a neurobehavioral developmental disorder. ADHD is the most commonly studied and diagnosed psychiatric disorder in children, affecting about 3% to 5% of children globally and diagnosed in about 2% to 16% of school aged children. It is a chronic disorder with 30% to 50% of those individuals diagnosed in childhood continuing to have symptoms into adulthood. ADHD is diagnosed two to four times as frequently in boys as in girls, though studies suggest this discrepancy may be due to subjective bias of referring teachers.

People who have it may appear very stubborn. Temper tantrums, stealing, bullying, and vandalism are some of key symptoms of oppositional defiant disorder. ODD children may present as negative, defiant, unable to take "no" for an answer, deliberately annoying others, easily annoyed themselves, or blaming others for all that goes wrong. The child's behavior often disrupts the child's normal daily activities, including activities within the family and at school.

Every child faces emotional difficulties from time to time, as do adults. Feelings of sadness or loss and extremes of emotions are part of growing up. Conflicts between parents and children are also inevitable as children struggle from the "terrible two' s" through adolescence to develop their own identities. These are normal changes in behavior due to growth and development. Such problems can be more common in times of change for the family - the death of a grandparent or family member, a new child. a move to the city. Generally, these kinds of problems tend to fade on their own or with limited visits to a counselor or other mental health professional as children adjust to the changes in their lives. At times, however, some children may develop inappropriate emotional and behavioral responses to situations in their lives that persist over time.

The realization that a child's behavior needs professional attention can be painful or frightening to parents who have tried to support their child, or it may be accepted and internalized as a personal failure by the parent.

Psychology of handwriting

Handwriting analysis is a hobby that not many people have heard of. Yet it has been used for lots of things, from a neat party trick to helping in a murder investigation, handwriting analysis has a lot of potential. It has been debated over the years just how much handwriting analysis should be used as evidence for convicting someone. Handwriting involves both emotional and physical energy. Not unlike body language, handwriting can say a lot about a person and handwriting analysis is sometimes used in settings you might not expect such as workplaces and in legal situations.

Handwriting can reveal an aspect of yourself that you are trying to conceal, even from yourself.

The size of your handwriting is simply linked to the size of your own confident handling, or not of your own life. The smallness of writing, and your utilising a style which is smaller than normal in the size of your lettering, is a sign that you are wanting to hide your true self away, and diminish what you show of yourself to others. Writing slanted strongly to the right is a sign of an emotional nature. The more strongly the slant to the right the more emotional and open you might expect this person to be. Strongly left slanted writing indicates a person indicates a person who doesn't share emotions easily and tends to keep their feeling to themselves. Writing whose slant is primarily upright shows a person whose mind rules their heart and tends to control their emotions.

These are just a few of the many traits considered when analyzing a handwriting sample. Handwriting analysis is considered a soft science since there is no way to empirically prove these conclusions, however I found it very accurate when analyzing my own and others handwriting.

ESP COURSE SELF-ASSESSMENT

WRITING A SUMMARY
I can state, that writing summaries is the most difficult activity for me. Finding the main points of the text and write without errors is still hard.

LISTENING PRACTICE IN CLASS
I am confused due to this practice. Sometimes I both hear and understand the text, at other times I am nervous, because I can not fill a lot of gaps. Moreover, if I do not understand the meaning of the word, which I have to write in the gap I make spelling mistakes.

LISTENING TO PEERS POWER POINT PRESENTATION
This is a type of activity I enjoy the most. I find it very useful to listen for my classmates because they give me a chance to know a lot of useful and interesting things about psychology.

MAKING POWER POINT PRESENTATION
Making power point presentations is the best way to explore a theme. I make presentation about thinking . In this way I understood this theme deeply and clearly.

SHORT TALKS ON ESP THEMES IN CLASS
Speaking impromptu are the biggest my problem. It is really hard for me. Fast speed and little experience were the main retardations that troubled my performance in this range. I did not know how to say what I think. But speaking when I ready not hard for me talking themes are always interesting.

PERFORMANCE IN ESP DEFINITION TESTS
My performance in this task was not very well, my marks were worse. but I am worrying about it. Tests were difficult, because it was difficult to memorize definitions. When they were less, was easier to remember.

PERFORMANCE IN THE MODULE TEST
My performance in this task not very well. Often I make stupidity eras. It not very hard for me because I make this task at home.
LISTENING DICTATION
It is still a quite and unusual task for me. It is relly hard for me. I often make mistake and miss a lot of word.

Psychology of laughter

Laughter is the best medicine. And there's lots of evidence that laughter does lots of good things for us. It reduces pain and allows us to tolerate discomfort. It improves your job performance, especially if your work depends on creativity and solving complex problems.

Laughter establishes or restores a positive emotional climate and a sense of connection between two people, in fact, some researchers believe that the major function of laughter is to bring people together. And all the health benefits of laughter may simply result from the social support that laughter stimulates.

Today are a lot of different type of laughter. Some people laugh at funny things, some people laugh when they are nervous, some people even laugh when they are angry. Laughter is an open expression of left humour. How you laugh sends different signals other people. Are 5 most popular types of laughter: snorting, snigger, cackling, chuckling and belly – laugh. In a fact very few people think about different types of laughter. Though there are many ways to laugh, from giggles to guffaws and from chuckles to cackles.

Common causes for laughter are sensations of joy and humor, however other situations may cause laughter as well.A general theory that explains laughter is called the relief theory. Sigmund Freud summarized it in his theory that laughter releases tension and "psychic energy". This theory is one of the justifications of the beliefs that laughter is beneficial for one's health. This theory explains why laughter can be as a coping mechanizm for when one is upset, angry or sad.

Finally, I can say that there are not much information about psychological benefit of laughter. Researches are still being done. So we can guess that in the future laughter will be used to cure and more illnesses.

Psychology of conflicts

Conflict is a state of opposition, disagreement between two or more people or even groups of people. Sometimes conflicts are characterized by psychical violence. Military conflicts between two states may constitute war.

Conflicts can exist at a variety of levels of analysis: interpersonal, intrapersonal, emotional, group conflicts and so on. Conflict is an inevitable part of interpersonal and group life, it’s essential to learn how it works, how it can go wrong and what you can do to resolve conflict effectively. The most common causes of conflict is when :
- structure is unclear and information few
- unclear interests
- relations have changed and different values
- failure to look at the situation in a flexible manner, without prejudice
- failure to listen
- intra-personal problems (doubt, shy).

All conflicts’ situations has advantages and disadvantages. Conflicts’ advantage is a chance to know and understand other people better, improvement of interpersonal relations, avoids various defect. Conflicts’ disadvantages are problems remain unsolved, dissatisfactions, negative mood, intensification of negative relations, the group even fades.

However, conflicts are often linked to emotions that are very difficult to control, so this cause difficulties in dealing with conflicts. Finally, I can say that conflicts are often difficult to solve, even when both sides want to get maximum benefit. The best way to do this is to find a compromise. However it is not always easy to do.

Psychology study at MRU and University of Bradford

When I decided to study psychology I have long followed Psychology study programs in various Lithuanian universities and tried to decide which choice is the best. Now I’ll try to compare psychology studies at Mykolas Romeris University and one foreign university - University of Bradford.

Term-time. In order to get Bachelor’s degree of psychology in University Bradford (BU) student have to study three years but in Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) - four years. Term-time in many Europe University for Bachelor’s degree for psychology is three years but Bachelor’s degree in all Lithuanian universities is four years.

Learning programs of Psychology in MRU and BU have differences and similarities. In the first year students of Bradford University study The psychology of learning and study, Cognitive psychology, Psychobiological and Perception, Introduction to research, Methods in psychology. Many recite disciplines are included in our program too. Other disciplines are studied in the second year, for example Statistics. Our University’s students have Statistics in the first year of study but Bradford’s University - last study years. As I have compared studies in BU and MRU I have noticed that BU pay more attention to psychological subjects while MRU takes a great interest not only in psychological subjects but also in subjects that are important for person’s intelligence and calibre.

In both universities there are psychological laboratories where students can do different research and various experiments. In my opinion it is very interesting and necessary because students have a possibility to apply their theoretical knowledge practically.

Each University has advantages and disadvantages. In my opinion, in order to compare studies’ quality in any university it is necessary to study there for some time. That’s why I can’t decide which University, MRU or BU, is better. I think that each university tries to prepare really good professionals and be as great as possible.
